Curriculum Intro

  • Vocal skills in worship (course for vocalists)

The course begins with the anatomy of the vocal and respiratory system, its functions and the fundamentals of sound production. In this course, we will work on mastering vocal and respiratory skills and sound projection. We will talk about the fundamental principles of vocal hygiene. Students will learn about the theory and practical application of resonators, vocal positions, and develop basic vocal techniques. All technical elements of the subject's vocal skills will be understood in the context of the composition's holistic musical drama (dynamics, phrasing, stylistics).

  • Playing skills in the worship band skills(course for musicians)

The purpose of this course is to develop and improve the practical skills of musicians playing in a team. We will start by understanding the logic of musicians' placement on stage and the role of each instrument in the overall space, and move on to a practical exploration of a number of teamwork elements. As part of this course, we will analyse common problems and mistakes that are common in the musical practice of worship bands and discuss ways to overcome them. You will receive professional advice to help you take your band's playing skills to the next level.

  • Musical literacy in worship

Music Literacy in Worship is a foundational course that covers the following areas: music theory, solfege, and harmony. This course begins with the basics and leads to more complex musical elements in the context of contemporary worship music. Course objectives: - development of musical ear (intonation, pitch, harmony, rhythmic, harmonic); - development of musical thinking and musical memory as the basis for practical skills; - development of creative abilities to compose and improvise.

  • Theology of worship

This course introduces students to the biblical foundations of worship. It will also study key elements of the history, theology and practice of Christian worship. We will analyse the leading trends in worship in churches today and the possibilities for its development from a biblical and historical perspective. The aim of the course is to prepare students for the practical application of a holistic understanding of worship in the context of the contemporary local church.

  • Arranging musical worship

The course covers practical skills that every worship leader needs. Particular attention is paid to song strategy: what constitutes a ‘strong’ worship song and how to build your repertoire in a way that maintains theological balance and a balance between ‘old’ and ‘new’ songs; how to choose keys that are comfortable for general singing; how to build a coherent musical and thematic concept for a worship service, etc. In addition, it raises issues such as the principles of effective rehearsal, communication and behaviour of the worship team on stage, working with limited musical resources, and more.

  • Biblical principles of leadership

The course studies the theme of leadership from a biblical perspective. The focus is on the principles that underpin the nature and character of biblical leadership. We will look not only at examples of constructive leadership, but also at mistakes and some specific pitfalls that accompany leaders.

  • Applied worship leadership

The course focuses on the practical aspects of leadership that are fundamental to building a healthy and successful team: - skills for recruiting and selecting team members; - strategies for motivating and developing a worship team; - communication and conflict resolution skills; - skills of constructive criticism and healthy perception of criticism; - emotional management skills, etc.

  • Fundamentals of worship songwriting

We have developed the Worship Songwriting course to respond to an urgent need of Ukrainian churches. We will discuss how the songwriting process begins, what are the signs of a poorly written song, and what makes a good song. This course will introduce you to different approaches and techniques of songwriting. You will receive expert instruction and practice writing lyrics, melodies, and harmonies. The speakers are people who have direct experience in worship songwriting.
