Program Goals

The objective of this program is to equip leaders and administrators with biblical principles that guide effective leadership and service. Through the study of Scripture, leadership formation, and practical models of engagement, participants develop a deeper understanding of their calling and responsibility in ministry. The program seeks to cultivate leaders who demonstrate integrity, wisdom, and spiritual maturity while effectively interacting with churches, organizations, and the broader society.

Target Audience

  • This program is designed for leaders of church communities who desire to strengthen their leadership through a biblical foundation. It is also beneficial for staff members of Christian organizations, administrators and leaders of educational institutions, and ministers serving in mission centers. The program is also open to anyone who seeks to develop initiatives that support the church’s transforming mission in society and contribute to meaningful social and spiritual change.

Program Details

  • The program is delivered in a blended format that combines in-person intensive sessions with online learning. The total duration of the program is two years. During the first year, students participate in two intensive sessions, each lasting two weeks. In the second year, students attend two additional two-week sessions and complete a final thesis project. Between the sessions, participants take part in weekly online seminar classes lasting approximately 3–5 hours. This format allows students to continue their ministry or professional responsibilities while pursuing theological and leadership training.

Curriculum Intro

  • Critical Thinking and Research Skills

The course helps to develop effective public oral or written communication of church and organization leaders. During lectures, students gain a number of necessary skills, in particular the ability to qualitatively substantiate own thoughts and thoughts of others, critically and analytically think them over and express them either through a confident oral speech or through a thoroughly argued and consistent written text.

  • Bible, Church and Context

A multidisciplinary subject (consisting of three equal parts) that has three goals: first, to improve and equalise the theological knowledge of those who entered the programme without a university degree in the humanities and those who studied theology long ago or in another educational tradition; second, to lay the foundations for the three key theological areas of the programme (defining a hermeneutical approach to the Scriptures and their contextual interpretation; understanding the church and its mission in society and the world through the lens of the theology of holistic mission; studying and understanding the peculiar social context of the church’s mission); third, to form a view of the above areas of theology through the lens of holistic mission as the main missionary ethos of the UETS.

  • Transformative Leadership

The course is based on, first and foremost, a statement that each type of leadership is guided by certain beliefs and values that shape certain character traits which, in turn, lead to qualitative changes. Second, it is based on the assumption that there is no common understanding of the notion of leadership, or one type accepted by all people in all times which would meet all cultural, social, religious and organizational contexts. However, there is a number of convictions, values and character traits which are universal and relevant for all times and contexts.

  • Spiritual Formation

The course suggests an integral approach to formation of spirituality of the human being as a holistic individuality, considering the main historically established spiritual practices and discipline. Spiritual formation is a process during which the internal invisible “I” (inner world) is harmonized with his or her external component. In the context of the course, spirituality presupposes the process of establishment and formation of a holistic individuality rather than the position of separation from the material world or physical needs of a person. The aim of spiritual formation lies in development of an individuality, with its external qualities harmoniously reflecting internal ones or being their consistent continuation rather than contradiction.

  • Leadership Ethics

Leadership is a constant decision-making process, most of which is ethical in nature. The course examines the history of ethical doctrines, the methodology of ethics in the Old and New Testaments, selected ethical issues such as gender ethics, bioethics, war and peace, social ethics, and the organisational and professional ethics of the modern leader.

  • Conflictology

The course considers possible ways to solve conflicts and analyses biblical means via which the negative and destructive powers of a conflict can be transformed into a positive and constructive experience (viewing the conflict from the perspective ‘holy land’ rather than ‘battle field’). During the course, students study a number of issues such as conflict dynamics, variety of individual styles of behavior in conflicts, ways to solve conflicts, non-violent methods of transforming initiative, variety and marginality, processes of reconciliation and renewal.

  • Financial Management

The course includes two equal components. The first part comprises a short overview of the philosophy of money and treatment of it; fundamentals of financial literacy for reasonable management and disposal of finances and other entrusted resources. The second part focuses on two specific spheres of financial activities, namely project activities and management of finances in non-profit organization; answers to a number of necessary questions such as attraction of resources (fundraising), budget formation, financial management, transparency and accountability, management and development of the organization.

  • Organisational Leadership

The course explores the basic principles of leadership in team management in the organisational structure of religious organisations, church ministries, social and missionary initiatives. The course consists of three main parts. The first part examines the basic concepts of leadership, such as the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of the organisation, and offers practical tools to help the core team of the organisation come to a common understanding of these concepts. The second part is dedicated to the basic principles and stages of team building and corporate culture. The third part of the course focuses on how a leader can create the space and relationships in which each team member can develop personally and professionally, and examines the concepts of mentoring and coaching in organisational leadership.

  • Holistic Mission

The course covers the following topics: the biblical doctrine of God’s mission in the world, the biblical and theological foundations of holistic mission, the holistic mission of the church and man, society and creation, types of holistic mission of the church in the modern world.

  • Public Theology

The course consists of two parts: the first part reviews the main political motifs within the key narratives of the Old and New Testaments (creation, exodus, covenant; the view of society from the perspective of Deuteronomy and the period of monarchy; the preaching of the Kingdom of God; the early Christian kerygma of Christ as Lord; different forms of attitudes to empires in the biblical canon); the second part focuses on the analysis of the theological and biblical ideas presented in the first part (their significance for the modern church in its interaction and relations with society and the state; possible models of relations and connections from the biblical perspective).

  • Social Transformational Initiatives - Peacebuilding

At the core of this course is the study of the concept of shalom, its formation in the biblical narrative, especially in the prophetic tradition, and how it affects the formation of quality transformational initiatives for the mission of the church in modern society (with practical examples in various spheres of society).
