April 6-9, 2025, saw the annual gathering of army chaplains of the Ukrainian Evangelical Church, which was held in a picturesque location near Kyiv.

The event, which was co-organized by the Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary, Outreach Foundation, USA, and Ukrainian Bible Society, was aimed at further training of the chaplains, and also their physical, emotional and spiritual restoration.

Most of the attendees have military ranks and signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine as full-time military chaplains. Volunteering chaplains, coming from a variety of congregations, also joined.

Some of the participants have been wounded during their service, some have even gone through Russian captivity.

During three days of the gathering, the participants, many of whom came together with their wives and children, focused on the following issues:

  • resilience amid crises;
  • pastoral care of the military;
  • care of families of Ukrainian servicemen;
  • role of army chaplains in supporting the morale of the Ukrainian Army.

Experts from Ukraine, USA, Lithuania, among whom were retired professional chaplains and high-ranking army officers, shared their unique experiences and practical recommendations.

Today, army chaplains are gradually becoming an integral part of the Ukrainian Army. They monitor soldiers’ morale, provide spiritual guidance, conduct worship services, and support families of military personnel.

We are grateful to God and our partners for this opportunity to minister to those who perform this important duty at this challenging time for our nation.
