Community Outreach

The Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary seeks to bring healing, restoration, and hope in Christ to local communities. These efforts span multiple areas of ministry, including rehabilitation for people with disabilities, trauma healing, chaplaincy training, and church planting. These ministry areas are united by a common purpose: to see lives transformed by the Gospel and communities shaped by God’s truth, compassion, and justice.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Adaptation and Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities

One of UETS’s community outreach projects focuses on helping those who acquired disabilities during the war with rehabilitation and social adaptation, while preparing families, churches, and communities to be inclusive and equipping professionals with specialized counseling skills.

The ministry combats social isolation stemming from Soviet-era stigma and equips churches to serve as centers of healing. As a result, we envision a Christ-centered society where war amputees and people with disabilities are fully included, empowered, treated with dignity, and ultimately reached with the Gospel.

Our approach combines education, physical rehabilitation, and public awareness. Initiatives include publishing guidebooks, certifying disability adaptation specialists, hosting seminars, supporting adaptive sports, and creating digital content to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusion.

Trauma-Healing and Emotional Support

UETS also addresses the psychological trauma of the war by transforming churches and NGOs into safe spaces for Gospel-centered healing. The ministry focuses on preventing both domestic and war-related violence, providing spiritual and psychological care for those suffering from PTSD and anxiety. By equipping local leaders with practical intervention tools, the seminary aims to build resilient communities shaped by God’s truth, dignity and justice.

There is a structured support system for survivors through specialized training and the development of trauma-informed resources. UETS has already launched pilot groups and published manuals to facilitate healing for survivors of abuse and displacement. To ensure sustainability, the ministry continues to train new facilitators to lead recovery programs within faith-based and civic organizations.

Beyond direct support, the ministry utilizes educational seminars and a media campaign to reduce social tolerance for violence. These efforts reach a broad audience, including schools, police, and social services. Through podcasts and social media, UETS promotes nonviolence and provides clear paths to emotional restoration for all affected Ukrainians.

Chaplancy Ministry

UETS is actively engaged in training Christian military chaplains. Under recently adopted Ukrainian legislation, those who wish to serve as formal military chaplains and be assigned to a military unit are required to hold a relevant degree from a licensed educational institution. As a result, many believers who feel called to serve as army chaplains pursue their bachelor’s degrees through the seminary’s licensed programs in counseling and applied theology.

Another way in which UETS contributes to the development of chaplaincy in Ukraine is by hosting specialized retreats, workshops, conferences, and consultations that bring together chaplains from diverse backgrounds to address real-world challenges. These gatherings facilitate a holistic system of care and help develop strategic recommendations for churches and state agencies to guide the future of the service.

UETS is also contributing to the professionalization of Christian chaplaincy, an area that has evolved from a volunteer movement into a state-recognized institution, through the publication of relevant resources. This initiative helps ensure that ministry leaders are equipped with the expertise needed to serve effectively in high-need environments.

Church-Planting

Church planting is central to the mission of the Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary because it embodies the Gospel we teach. UETS understands that theological education is not only about knowledge, but about participating in Christ’s mission to build His Church. By planting new congregations, especially in a time of war, the seminary helps bring the hope of the Gospel into communities that are searching for meaning, healing, and truth.

More than 10 UETS faculty are personally engaged in planting and supporting churches because they are committed to practicing what they teach. This lived example ensures that their instruction remains grounded, credible, and Gospel-centered. As they disciple new believers, they model faithful ministry for their students, demonstrating that the work of theology finds its fullest expression in proclaiming Christ and nurturing His Church.
