On May 1–2, 2026, two conferences for Christian counselors — “Soul and Word” and “Artkaleidoscope” — joined efforts around a shared theme: “Between Pain and Hope: The Role of the Church in Supporting People Who Are Grieving.”

On the first day, during the “Soul and Word” conference, participants explored psychological aspects of grief, discussed the role of faith and spiritual care, and engaged with practical tools for supporting people in crisis.

Special focus was placed on loss in the context of war, particularly the experiences of military personnel and their families, as well as the phenomenon of ambiguous loss. Other topics included the effects of loss on the body and pathways to healing, the philosophy of grief, and ways to better understand oneself through emotions.

The second day of the conference, “Artkaleidoscope,” was devoted to supporting people experiencing loss through art therapy methods that create a safe space for healing.

Participants gained a deeper understanding of the grieving process through art, images, and symbols, and also learned practical techniques for working with pain, emotions, and inner healing. Some workshops focused on supporting teens experiencing loss and helping them navigate difficult emotions in safe ways.

Both days became platforms for learning, live communication, honest conversations, and mutual support. Participants shared their experiences, asked questions, and discovered new meanings in a topic that is often too painful for words.

These days also served as a reminder of the importance of being present for others and the power of community to provide support on the journey between pain and hope.

Christian counselors, practicing psychologists, lecturers, and other specialists, including faculty from the UETS Counseling Department who work with military personnel, their families, and individuals experiencing loss, shared their expertise and experience.
