Today, on December 2, 2022, Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary was privileged to welcome the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, on its campus.

The Archbishop met the faculty and staff, listened to testimonies about the ministry of the seminary at the wartime, had lunch with members of the UETS Administrative Council, and gave interviews to the media.

“You say we are welcoming important guests. In fact, we are not important guests. You are important hosts. You are more important than any guests because this is you who have lived through and served in the last 9 months of the large-scale invasion,” said Justin Welby to the faculty. “This visit heals us from complacency and teaches us what it means to be disciples of Christ,” he added.

The Archbishop is making his Advent visit to show solidarity with the people and churches of Ukraine as they face ongoing Russian bombardment and a profoundly difficult winter.

During his trip, the Archbishop has meetings with leaders of Ukraine’s churches to hear their accounts of what the country is going through.

The Archbishop is also meeting Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced people and seeing the work of churches and charities providing support to them.
