Even amid the devastating war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary (UETS) remains committed to its mission of equipping Christian leaders beyond its borders.
Through its long-standing satellite programs in Kyrgyzstan, UETS continues to provide theological education for pastors and ministry leaders serving in the challenging context of Central Asia.
Today, the seminary offers satellite programs in Applied Theology and Counseling, preparing students for faithful and effective ministry in a predominantly Muslim environment.
Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, UETS faculty regularly traveled to Kyrgyzstan to teach intensive courses in person. Since the outbreak of the war, however, travel has become extremely difficult, and the seminary has transitioned most of its teaching to an online format.
To complement online instruction, UETS has been blessed by the partnership of friends from theological institutions abroad who travel to Kyrgyzstan to teach in person, ensuring that students continue to benefit from face-to-face interaction with experienced scholars and practitioners.
One of the most recent study sessions featured Dr. Thomas H. McCall of Asbury Theological Seminary, with which UETS signed a Memorandum of Partnership in 2024. Dr. McCall is a widely respected theologian, accomplished teacher, and prolific author.
During the session, Dr. McCall taught courses in Hamartiology and Pastoral Ministry, equipping students with sound theological foundations and practical tools for pastoral service. Students completed the intensive with great enthusiasm and a renewed commitment to apply what they had learned to strengthening the Church and serving their communities throughout Central Asia.
As the seminary continues to navigate the realities of wartime ministry, it remains thankful to God for the opportunity to invest in the next generation of Christian leaders in Central Asia. UETS prays that these students will faithfully proclaim the Gospel, strengthen local churches, and contribute to God’s transforming work throughout the region.
